KU staffer chairs music foundation

Nancy Rutherford Hawkins, media supervisor for Kansas University’s Gorton Music & Dance Library, was elected chairwoman of the board for the Mu Phi Epsilon – which supports scholarships and grants provided by the international professional music fraternity – during the organization’s annual meeting in August in Sacramento, Calif.

Hawkins was initiated as a Mu Phi Epsilon member during her undergraduate years and served as her collegiate chapter president, then district director, and has been twice elected president of the Lawrence Alumni Chapter.

Hawkins will continue to serve as chairwoman of the board for international conventions in 2008 and 2009.

Hawkins earned an undergraduate degree in organ performance from Kansas State University, and continued her graduate study in organ at Kansas University, where she received a master’s degree in journalism with an emphasis on music criticism.
