Quit fussing

To the editor:

I just read your editorial in Monday’s paper. Barring illness, injury or unforeseeable circumstances, I fully intend to be in Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 24, to watch the KU-MU game. I will be wearing my bluest Kansas University attire as I cheer and support our KU football team. I believe we need a strong fan base to cheer our team to victory. Believe me, the Mizzou fans will be there!

It strikes me that as the success of the football program and their following has grown, it has translated to increased sales in the downtown community. Perhaps some of those planning to “boycott” the game should recall the past “lean” years of the program, when the fever and following was not so high. I don’t recall any boycotts called for then. Also, perhaps the Journal-World’s hired economist could do some research and inform us how much additional revenue has been generated in the past few years with a more successful program.

Fire away at those who made the decision to move the game, but what businessperson wouldn’t make a similar economic decision if it involved their own business? These folks are doing the job they were brought here to do, and they’re apparently doing it well. We have seven home games this year, as many as we’ve ever had, plus I fully believe most of us will return to our fair city after the game, hopefully to celebrate a victory over the Tigers. The time has come to quit fussing and get behind all those who have made this overall success possible!

Wayne Zachary,
