Fan support

To the editor:

Kansas University’s victory in Manhattan on Saturday, the first since 1989, was, needless to say, a very exciting and well deserved victory. Even though KU’s football team won on the field, I am still very impressed by Wildcat fans and their knowledge and pure love of football. I think KU fans can learn a great deal from their Wildcat neighbors and how to create a true “home field advantage.”

A home field advantage does not come merely from playing at home, from nicer locker rooms, or the lack of travel time by the home team. A home field advantage comes from the ability of the fans in the stadium to create an environment which makes it difficult for the visiting team to perform at their best. This primarily means creating a noise level that makes it hard for our visitors to communicate on the field and on the sideline.

We have a very dedicated student section and I praise them for their love of Kansas athletics. I would love to see ALL of the fans at home football games as excited and “pumped up” for the game. If our fans aren’t going home hoarse and exhausted after each game, it simply means we haven’t yelled and cheered loud enough!

So, for the remaining KU home football games, I would like to inspire KU fans to crank up the noise level throughout the entire game, and especially when the visitors have the ball, to create a true home field advantage.
