Festival to celebrate environmental practices
It will be a party in the park and an opportunity for area residents to learn more about how to be friendly to the environment.
Organizers are putting on the city’s first “Little Green Festival in the Cottonwood Forest” from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Burcham Park, Second and Indiana streets.
The event will feature food, music, art and several booths and demonstrations on environmentally sustainable practices.
“We have two vegetable oil cars that went to California and back for free,” organizer Alison Roepe said. “We’ll have some electric bicycles, some rain barrels and a couple of women from Kansas City who do green roofs. We have a pretty good variety of green ideas.”
The event also is designed to draw attention to the Cottonwoods in Burcham Park.
Some of the trees might be lost as part of a project to build a boathouse and clubhouse for the Kansas University women’s rowing team.
