Midnight Farm revisions up for county review
A revised site plan for a farm for developmentally disabled people near Baldwin City will go before the Douglas County Commission tonight.
Community Living Opportunities wants to relocate a private drive, two houses, part of a recreation trail and a multipurpose building. A swimming pool and pool shelter are being removed from the Midnight Farm plan.
In 2006, commissioners approved a conditional-use permit for the development at 2084 N. 600 Road. The permit allows developmentally disabled people and their host families to live on the 40-acre farm.
Commissioners also will hold a public hearing on a petition requesting vacation of an access and utility easement so that a new easement can be dedicated.
On another issue, commissioners will receive a request from the Marion Township Board to declare small portions of East 200, East 600, East 650 and North 1 roads as “minimum maintenance.” Commissioners must decide whether to request a recommendation from the Douglas County Planning Commission to designate the sections as minimum maintenance.
A minimum maintenance road receives little or no routine work, generally because of very low traffic volumes. A township board responsible for maintenance has determined that other well-traveled roads deserve more maintenance.
Commissioners will meet at 6:35 p.m. on the second floor of the courthouse, 1100 Mass.
