More questions

To the editor:

I am curious about the closed-door meeting Sue Hack attended regarding the Deciphera tax rebate. If Attorney General Morrison asked city staff and commissioners about Mayor Hack’s role in this meeting, who did he speak to and what did they say? Are there records of these interviews? It seems to me that the AG owes the citizens of Lawrence a better explanation of what occurred at that meeting.

It’s also interesting to note that Mayor Hack lists two local drug development firms on her statement of substantial interest disclosure form: Deciphera and Biochenomix. But research reveals that they are the same company. Does this mean that she actually owns far more than 5 percent of Deciphera?

I can’t help but wonder when Mayor Hack bought into Deciphera. It seems to me that her timing in purchasing the stock, while unknown, is very important. I worry that her actions come dangerously close to insider trading.

There are an awful lot of questions remaining about this deal. Given that the citizens of Lawrence are being asked to forgo significant tax revenues on Deciphera’s shareholders’ behalf, I think we deserve better answers than we’ve been given thus far.
