KU women clip Drake

? Kansas University sophomore LaChelda Jacobs was a perfect 7-for-7 from the field and scored 15 points off the bench as the KU women’s basketball team held off Drake, 69-64, Friday in the first round of the SMU Hoops for the Cure Classic.

Jacobs was joined in double figures by sophomores Danielle McCray (14 points) and Sade Morris (10).

Kansas (3-0) won despite being outscored by 14 from the free-throw line and going 0-for-6 from 3-point range.

The Jayhawks countered by hitting 48.1 percent of their field goals (25 of 52) while holding Drake (2-3) to 29.2-percent shooting.

Kansas led 35-29 at halftime and came out of the break on fire, opening with a 6-0 run. The Jayhawks stretched their lead to 14, with 14:59 to play, before Drake rallied.

Kansas will face host SMU in the tournament championship game at 7 tonight. SMU beat Western Michigan, 86-61, on Friday.
