Blowing smoke

November 21, 2007

To the editor:

The "Know Your Power" ad in the Nov. 14 issue of the Journal-World is a bit disingenuous. All their alleged facts may be true, but the fact that the natural gas alternative Chesapeake Energy Corp. proposes also would emit carbon dioxide, the reason that the coal-fired plants were denied, is never acknowledged - an inconvenient chemical TRUTH.

It seems to me both sides are blowing smoke.

"where some sort of organic substances would work together and process most of it"

Lowell!

Tell me that CO2 is not organic.

The Jefferies and KPL-Lawrence energy plants are scheduled to have their permits under the Clean Air Act considered for renewal in 2008.

We must tell KDHE and Rod Bremby to exercise his same judgement on these two plants....both of which are far dirtier as far as CO2 and other pollutants are concerned....than the recently considered plant in Holcomb.

These permits should be denied.

Do others from Lawrence agree? Are you there COOL? SnowWI? Others?

Carbon Dioxide is a big problem. If only there were some location where some sort of organic substances would work together and process most of it... Hmm. Guess pastureland is more important. Nevermind.
