Volunteers needed to Adopt a Grandparent

Douglas County Senior Services' Adopt a Grandparent Program is looking for volunteers to pair with a senior during the holidays.

Immediate volunteer needs

¢ Salvation Army and Toys for Tots' Christmas Toy Shop needs volunteers to sort and display items Dec. 10-12.

Volunteers also are needed to assist clients in choosing toys and clothing Dec. 13-15.

To volunteer, contact Wes Dahlberg at 843-4188, ext. 102.

¢ Holiday Bell Ringer volunteers are needed from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. for a minimum of two-hour shifts until Dec. 24.

¢ Douglas County Visiting Nurses Rehabilitation and Hospice Care is in need of people to help hospice patients with snow removal during the winter months.

Interested volunteers should contact Steve Satterfield, volunteer coordinator, at 843-3738.

¢ The Wednesdays at Liberty Hall program seeks energetic volunteers to assist with programs serving junior high students from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. each Wednesday in downtown Lawrence.

¢ Lawrence Art Center's Holiday Shop needs volunteers Dec. 7-8.

Volunteers will assist children with shopping for gifts to surprise mom, dad or even the family pet and help them wrap their gifts.

Elves and gift wrappers, age 16 or older, are needed in two-hour shifts. Contact Laura Rose at 843-2787 or

¢ Individuals age 55 and older are needed throughout Douglas County this holiday season to help wrap gifts with the Children's Holiday Shop, distribute coats at the Share the Warmth coat drive, distribute toys at the Christmas Toy Shop, serve meals to the homeless and more.
