Man’s condition critical after beating
After being beaten by four men, a 43-year-old Lawrence man was flown to St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., with critical injuries about 5 p.m. Saturday.
The victim, Ty Miller, remained in critical condition at the hospital as of 10:40 p.m. Saturday.
The four men were arrested, according to Lawrence Police Sgt. Dave Hubbel.
Miller was walking with a friend, Chris Byrd, 26, about 4:30 p.m. near the 1600 block of Harper Street. Byrd said the four men approached them and talked to Miller “like they knew him.”
He said they circled around Miller and beat him in the head with at least one beer bottle and punched and kicked Miller before he fell unconscious. Byrd said he dragged Miller into the bed of his pickup truck nearby and began driving. He said he flagged down a police officer.
Lawrence Police and Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical personnel were dispatched to Hobbs Park, 800 E. 11th St., where the emergency helicopter landed.
Eliseo Munoz, 25, Lawrence, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated battery. Plutarco Haro, 23, Olathe, Jaime Haro, 19, Olathe, and Ruben Rodriguez, 21, Olathe, were arrested on suspicion of aggravated battery and assault.
