KU to test new notification system

Kansas University will test its emergency text message system today.

Those who have provided their phone numbers to KU will receive a message saying a test of “the KU Alert text messaging system” is being conducted.

More than 11,000 people have registered their phone numbers with KU; however, some did not provide complete information and will not receive a text message. People are encouraged to sign up, though they will not receive the test message because the database is updated weekly.

The text messaging system is being provided through a two-year contract with Rave Wireless. The system costs $15,000 per year, and there is a 6-cent charge per message.
