A Nov. 20 preliminary hearing has been scheduled for a Carbondale man charged in Douglas County with sex crimes against two Baldwin City girls.

During a court hearing Tuesday, Douglas County District Judge Robert Fairchild set the hearing date and rejected a request by defense attorney Sally Pokorny to reduce the 38-year-old suspect’s $80,000 bond. The suspect remains in jail. If convicted, he could face a total maximum sentence of 419 months in prison.

Baldwin City police acted on a tip and arrested the man earlier this month after he drove from Carbondale to Baldwin City to allegedly have sex with two girls under the age of 14. He is charged with attempted rape and attempted aggravated sodomy.

Assistant District Attorney Amy McGowan told the judge Tuesday that an additional charge of electronic solicitation would be filed.
