Decision delayed on Oread Inn

It was way too late to talk about a really tall building.

That’s the only conclusion that city commissioners reached Tuesday evening on a proposal to build a seven-story hotel at the edge of the Kansas University campus.

Just before midnight, commissioners halted discussion on The Oread Inn project – a hotel and condo project at 12th and Indiana Streets. Commissioners instead agreed to take up the project – which is being proposed by members of the Gene Fritzel Construction Co. – at their Nov. 27 meeting.

Commissioners did hear some public comment on a portion of the project. Residents were mixed on the plan, with some saying the project was needed to help revitalize the neighborhood. Others said the design should be changed so that it would be shorter and would fit in better with the surrounding historic neighborhoods.
