Snow shovelers sought for hospice patients

Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation, and Hospice Care is in need of people to help hospice patients with snow removal during the winter months.

Immediate volunteer needs

The Wednesdays at Liberty Hall program seeks energetic volunteers to assist with programs serving junior high students from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. each Wednesday in downtown Lawrence.

Volunteers are needed for a variety of positions, including greeting students, assisting with fun and educational events, promoting events downtown, and helping to plan and coordinate programs. Volunteers must commit until the end of the semester in December.

¢ The Lawrence Art Center’s Holiday Shop needs volunteers Friday, Dec. 7, and Saturday, Dec. 8. Volunteers will assist children with shopping for gifts that they can buy to surprise mom, dad or even the family pet or help them wrap their gifts. ¢ The Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen needs volunteers for its Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday, Nov. 22, at First Christian Church, 10th and Kentucky streets.

Volunteer drivers are needed to deliver meals to the homebound. LINK also needs volunteers to prepare food, serve and clean up.

¢ Individuals ages 55 and older are needed throughout Douglas County this holiday season to help wrap gifts with the Children’s Holiday Shop, distribute coats at the Share the Warmth coat drive, distribute toys at the Christmas Toy Shop, serve meals to the homeless and more. ¢ Volunteers are needed to provide free tax assistance to residents of Douglas and Franklin Counties during tax season. Community volunteers with experience in preparing their own taxes can be trained for the AARP program. Computer skills are helpful but not required, as volunteers assist with general services including receptionist work and other support.
