Concerts to replenish music endowment

Lawrence High School and Free State High School musicians will play concerts today at a fundraiser for a local music education endowment.

The benefit concert begins at 4:30 p.m. today in the sanctuary of Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt.

Admission is free, and donations will help fund the endowment through the Lawrence Schools Foundation. Desserts, tea and coffee will be offered after the concert.

The endowment recently grew to $255,000 after a Lied Center concert by the Kansas City Symphony raised $18,000, said Bob Dinsdale, chairman of Music Works!, the group working with the foundation.

In a separate event, the Lawrence High School Music Department will present Gala 2007 next week, as its first fundraiser concert. Performers will take the stage at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tuesday in the LHS Auditorium.

Tickets are available at the LHS finance office, at the door or through parent organizer Terry Jacobsen at (785) 218-9060 or lhsbandparents@hotmail.com.
