The city will open a portion of its Indoor Aquatic Center early today to accommodate children out of school.

The leisure pool at the aquatic center, 4706 Overland Drive, will open at 1 p.m. today instead of its normal opening time of 3 p.m.

The aquatic center also will be host to the third annual Lawrence Aquahawks IMX Swim Meet, beginning at 5 p.m. today and concluding at 7 p.m. Sunday. The aquatic center will remain open for public use, but the number of lanes for lap swimming will be reduced. The city will offer lap swimming from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Carl Knox Natatorium at Lawrence High School, 19th and Louisiana streets.
