Man arrested for alleged sex crimes with children

? Baldwin City police on Friday arrested a 38-year-old Carbondale man on two-counts of attempted rape and electronic solicitation of a child.

The alleged victims were 12- and 13-year-old Baldwin City girls, police Chief Mike McKenna said.

The arrest was made because of the police investigation based on a tip, McKenna said. Thursday night, police learned that someone wanted to go to Baldwin City to meet the girls for “illicit purposes,” McKenna said. Officers were waiting when the suspect arrived Friday morning. The suspect was arrested, McKenna said. He was taken to the Douglas County Jail.

A judge is expected to set a bond for the suspect today. He will appear in court Monday. The Journal-World generally does not print the names of suspects in sex crimes unless they have been convicted.
