“Beacon,” a sculpture by Wisconsin-based artists Gail Simpson and Aristotle Georgiades, will be unveiled at 4 p.m. today at Fire & Medical Station 4, 2121 Wakarusa Drive.

The public event, organized by the Lawrence Arts Commission, will include a reception and appearance by the artists, both of Actual Size Artworks of Stoughton, Wis.

The sculpture was commissioned by the city of Lawrence at a cost of $38,000 as part of the city’s Percent for Art program.

The program dedicates up to 2 percent of construction cost of public facilities and park land to public art.
