Documentary explores children’s resiliency

A documentary on the traumatic childhood story of Dr. Henry Remple will be shown Sunday.

Along with the viewing of the film will be a discussion of children’s resiliency. The event will start at 2:30 p.m. in the Lawrence Public Library auditorium, 707 Vt.

Remple has devoted his adult life to the mental health profession. As a child, his family immigrated to the United States to escape the Russian Revolution.

Remple’s story has been featured in a documentary, “Henry Remple: Finding Hope in Troubled Times.” The film was produced by Take Ten Inc. with a grant provided by the Rice Foundation and support from other organizations.

Discussion participants include Remple, Dr. Shane Lopez of Kansas University, David Johnson of Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center and Kathy Farwell, a third-grade teacher at Hillcrest School.
