Offices, services to close Monday

Government offices and public services in Lawrence will be closed Monday in observance of Memorial Day.

They also will be closed in most area towns.

All city, county and state offices will be closed, as will federal offices in the general services administration and the federal courts.

Kansas University also will be closed. The Dole Institute of Politics will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The post office will not make deliveries Monday except Express mail. UPS will not operate or make deliveries.

The Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt., will be closed Sunday and Monday. All banks will be closed.

Lawrence Meals on Wheels will make deliveries, but the Douglas County Senior Services meals program will not operate.

Lawrence Transit System buses and Lawrence Bus Co. buses will not run.

Parking meters in downtown Lawrence will be free Monday.

There will be no city yard waste pickups Monday. Trash pickups and commercial pickups will run as usual. In Tonganoxie, residents who normally have their trash picked up on Tuesday will have it picked up Wednesday. De Soto and Eudora residents who normally have their garbage collected Monday will have it picked up on Tuesday instead, while all other pickups days will remain the same.

The Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department offices and clinic will be closed.

The Outdoor Aquatic Center, 727 Ky., and the Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive, will be open from 1 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Monday.

Eagle Bend Golf Course and Learning Center, 1250 E. 902 Road, will be open and available for tee times.

All other recreation centers will be closed. There will be no recreational classes, adult sports or other events.

The circulation office at the Journal-World will be open from 6 a.m. to noon. USA Today will not be delivered.
