A 19-year-old Kansas University student reported that someone snatched her purse and dragged her along the ground early Saturday in the 1200 block of Massachusetts Street.

According to a Lawrence police report, the woman was walking with a friend about 12:40 a.m. north along Massachusetts Street in South Park when a man ran up behind her, grabbed her purse, pulled her backward and caused her to fall to the ground. She told police he dragged her for about 5 feet until the purse strap snapped and the man ran away with the purse.

The friend who had been walking with the woman told police she chased the suspect west until she lost him in front of a house party near 12th and Vermont streets.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 20s, about 6 feet tall and 175 to 200 pounds, wearing a red polo shirt, a cap with no logo and khaki cargo shorts.
