Petz didn’t wait for last week’s city showdowns to make a big impression, going 3-for-4 with a grand slam and six RBIs in Tuesday’s 12-2 rout of Olathe North. For good measure, the Firebirds’ catcher stroked a double in Wednesday’s 4-1 loss to Lawrence High and was 1-for-3 and scored twice in Friday’s 4-3 win against Shawnee Mission East.

Somers’ powerful bat continued to be a welcome sight in what has been a tough season for the Lions. She combined to go 3-for-7 with a home run and double in Wednesday’s doubleheader split with Shawnee Mission North and was 5-for-8 with another homer and two doubles in Thursday’s two-game sweep of Shawnee Mission East.
