Police seek suspect in attempted robbery

Lawrence police on Wednesday were looking for a man after a reported attempted robbery about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.

A 20-year-old woman told officers she was walking to her car in the 2500 block of West 31st Street when a man grabbed her and attempted to take her purse.

The woman told officers that she resisted and that the suspect ran away without taking any of her property, according to a police report. She was not injured.

She described the suspect as a white man in his 20s, 5 feet 9 inches tall with a medium build and spiked brown hair. He was last seen wearing black gloves and shorts and a gray T-shirt that said “Arizona.”

Police also were looking for a vehicle after fielding a report of an aggravated burglary at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 3700 block of Crossgate Terrace.

A witness reported seeing suspects around an open garage who then got into a car and left the area. The witness described the car as a silver two-door Ford Escort, according to a police report.

Property taken included miscellaneous fishing gear, a fly rod, an amplifier and a sweater.
