Pizza Hut sales in Lawrence will benefit Greensburg

E-mail saying otherwise is incorrect

Lawrence and Kansas City Pizza Huts are donating 20 percent of their sales today to the United Way Greensburg Disaster Fund.

Pizza Hut officials said a widely circulated e-mail today that stated Lawrence and Kansas City area Pizza Huts were not participating in the charity program was incorrect.

Denise Reed – a spokeswoman with Pizza Hut’s Kansas ad agency of United Marketing Communications – said all Kansas Pizza Huts participated in the program, which ends at the close of business tonight. She said Lawrence and Kansas City Pizza Huts had never pulled out of the program.

Instead, she said the e-mail stating they were not part of the program came from a Wichita-based association that was confused about the matter.

Reed also said the association – the International Pizza Hut Franchise Holders Association – incorrectly had stated that participating Pizza Huts were donating 20 percent of profits, when in fact they are donating 20 percent of all sales.

Reed said she did not yet have an estimate of how much the Pizza Huts would be donating to the tornado relief fund, but she said sales have “far exceeded our expectations.”
