Lawrence High School students win art contest

Three Lawrence High School students were named winners in the Congressional Art Competition from the Kansas Second Congressional District, U.S. Rep. Nancy Boyda announced Wednesday.

First-place winner Abhimanyu Sadal’s work “I’ve Got a Little Kansas in Me” will be displayed in the Cannon Tunnel to the U.S. Capitol. Second-place winner Darcy McDonough’s traditional photo “Time” will hang in Boyda’s Washington, D.C., office.

Third-place winner Alex Kim’s piece will be displayed in Boyda’s Topeka office. Wendy Vertachnik taught Sadal and Kim. Angelia Perkins taught McDonough.

Christina Klein, a Sabetha High School student, won fourth place for “City Scene.” Her artwork will be displayed in Boyda’s Pittsburg office.

Sadal’s work will be displayed for one year, and he will receive transportation for three people to Washington, D.C., for a reception and ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 28. The other winners also will have their work displayed for the next year in Boyda’s offices.
