Lawrence student named journalist of year

Patrick Lattin, a Baker University senior from Lawrence, was named the journalist of the year by the Kansas Associated Collegiate Press at its conference on April 15 and 16 in Wichita.

Lattin, the editor of the Baker student newspaper, the Baker Orange, became the eighth Baker student to earn the recognition since 2000.

Lattin was also given honorable mention for headlines, editorials and two in series writing.

The student paper won the association’s All-Kansas award for the eighth time in the last 10 years.

Senior Wes Mikel finished second runner-up in journalist of the year in the yearbook category.

Several other Baker journalists from area towns earned top finishes:

¢ Jen Thierer, De Soto, third place in column writing.

¢ Mikel, Lenexa, honorable mention in illustrations.
