Lawrence pharmacist joins state board

A Lawrence resident has been appointed to serve a three-year term as a member of the Kansas State Board of Pharmacy.

Karen Braman, director of pharmacy services for Preferred Health Systems, was appointed to the post by Gov. Kathleen Sebelius.

Braman received a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy and a master’s degree in hospital pharmacy from Kansas University. Sebelius described her as a published expert in her field. Before joining Preferred Health Systems earlier this year, Braman worked on health care issues for the Kansas Health Policy Authority and several other state agencies beginning in 1996.

The board works to ensure that Kansas pharmacists are properly trained and uphold all professional standards.
