Pedestrians hit by cars
Separate incidents of pedestrians being struck by vehicles occurred within moments of each other on New Hampshire Street on Friday night.
The first incident happened shortly after 8 p.m. at Seventh and New Hampshire streets, when three women in their 20s were struck by a vehicle that had been southbound on New Hampshire Street.
The pedestrians were on the east crosswalk as the car turned onto Seventh Street when they were hit. One victim was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene.
The driver was not located as of late Friday night, and police reported that conflicting descriptions of the driver were given.
Moments later, a 52-year-old woman was hit by a car at the intersection of Eighth and New Hampshire streets. She was taken to LMH. The incident was not a hit and run. The driver was cited with failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
