Lawrence man charged in drug trafficking case

A 49-year-old Lawrence man was charged Thursday with four federal counts related to drug trafficking in U.S. Federal Court in Kansas City, Kan.

Jim D. Riley was charged with one count of possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine and one count of possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking and two counts of possessing a firearm after a felony conviction.

Federal prosecutors believe the crimes occurred in August in Douglas County.

Riley faces between five and 40 years in jail and up to $2 million in fines for the drug charge, between five years and life in jail for the firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking charge and up to 10 years and up to $250,000 in fines for the two other firearms charges.
