KDHE cites restaurant for food violation

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has cited Hayes Hamburger & Chili, 1410 Kasold Drive, for a violation of the state’s food code.

The department issued a letter of notification to the restaurant March 16. The department claimed an employee washed his hands in dishwashing water before handling food. It fined restaurant owner Jim Hayes $500.

Hayes said he had replaced the manager at the Lawrence location and would appeal the fine.
