Untimely tickets

To the editor:

Thank you to all the people involved in the planning and execution of the 20th annual Lawrence St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Once again you put on a wonderful show and raised money for a good cause in the process. From the flyover to all the fun entries, a good time was had by all.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t help but notice the families who had their day spoiled by a parking ticket compliments of the city of Lawrence. Upon my arrival downtown the morning of March 17, I saw not one meter reader, but two meter readers working their way down both sides of Massachusetts Street. Later as I followed the parade down the street it was hard not to notice the number of vehicles with little yellow envelopes on the windshield.

Was it really necessary? Is our city seriously in need of that additional revenue it generated during this event?

When the Jayhawks win the championship, be sure to bring a roll of quarters to the parade!
