Artistic asset

To the editor:

The Lied Center is one of many community treasures that enrich our lives and draw people to visit Lawrence and Douglas County. The variety of performances one can enjoy range from modern dance to classical ballets, family acts to world music, and classical music to Broadway plays. The Lied Center offers many additional ways to experience and enjoy the performing arts, including their pre-performance dinners and post-performance conversations with the artists.

As premier flutist Eugenia Zuckerman reflected when asked about her love of music, “Music is the portal to our emotions.” I believe this is true of all types of performances including theater, opera, dance and vocal performances.

Exciting learning opportunities for all ages are provided by the Lied Center’s education program, from performances designed especially for K-12 students, to pre-performance lectures for concertgoers, to master classes led by visiting artists for university students.

Patrons who purchase individual performance tickets, series or season tickets help make Lied Center programs available and accessible to our community and to people across the state. Friend of the Lied members and event sponsors add to the quality, diversity and outreach of Lied Center performances and artists.

The Lied Center is a comfortable, friendly place to enjoy a performance. Dress as you wish and come with your eyes and minds open to the wonders “waiting for you” at the Lied Center of Kansas.
