A job to do
To the editor:
Lew Perkins has been vilified, castigated and demonized. First it was the new basketball seating scheme, with its revisions of the donor pecking order. Now, the nerve of this fellow in moving the football game against our hated rival, Missouri, to Kansas City. Has he overlooked offending anyone? Even the merchants in Lawrence are hanging him in effigy. We’re not going to put up with his radical changes. We are going to remove KU from our wills and show this Perkins guy.
But wait, hold off on that codicil, stop and think, he is merely doing his job. He has been directed by Chancellor Hemenway and the KU “brass” to accomplish the long-term goal of “being competitive in the Big 12.” He is simply doing what he has been charged to do. I would wager that nowhere in his contract is any verbiage having to do with “making friends.” The right man is on the job.
Richard M. Hassur, Lawrence
