Donations accepted for Project Graduation

March 12, 2007

Project Graduation 2007, a communitywide post-graduation party, is being planned for members of the Class of 2007 who are graduating from all high schools in Lawrence.

The objective of the party is to provide a fun, safe, drug/alcohol-free environment where the graduates can eat, dance, play games, win prizes and celebrate graduation.

Project Graduation 2007 will be from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. May 27 at Abe & Jake's Landing, 8 E. Sixth St. The theme this year is "The Future Looks Bright!"

A drawing for a one-night stay at the Eldridge Hotel was held for those who made early donations for Project Graduation 2007. The winners were John and Melissa Watkins, who won from a pool of individuals and businesses making donations by Dec. 16.

Contributions of food, prizes and money are still being accepted. Contact or call co-chairs Phyllis Buchele at 842-2570, Jamie Hulse at 841-7653, Betsy Kelly at 842-3943, or Julie Swank at 865-5365 to make a donation or to volunteer.

Good project, but an interesting contrast to the olden days. There was a time when the parents said, "get your butt home by (pick a time) or you are in trouble." Now, it appears the kids rule the roost in some houses.
