Final: Free State defeats Washburn Rural, 56-53 (OT)

Emporia ? FINAL: Free State defeats Washburn Rural, 56-53, in overtime: Senior guard Lauren Kimball nailed two free throws with nine seconds left to seal the three-point Free State victory.
Senior guard Jenna Brantley led all scores with 19 points.
Both Free State teams will play in the Final 4 of their respective brackets. The girls will face top-seeded Wichita Heights (22-1) Friday at 3 p.m. The boys team will face Blue Valley West (16-7) Friday at 8:15 p.m.
END OF REGULATION: Free State is tied with Washburn Rural, 49-49, at the end of regulation. Brantley attempted a three-pointer as time expired, but it was blocked.
4:47 FOURTH QUARTER: Free State leads Washburn Rural, 46-45: Washburn Rural went on a 10-1 run to cut the lead to one. Free State has only one field goal since 6:31 in the third quarter.
END OF THIRD QUARTER: Free State leads Washburn Rural, 43-37: Kimball capped the Free State highlights in the third quarter with a steal on the inbounds pass. Kimball took it the length of the floor and got fouled. She converted both free throws.
3:42 THIRD QUARTER: Free State leads Washburn Rural 39-32: Jenna Brantley opened the second half with a layup. On the following possession, Brantley drove to the basket and found senior forward Jessica Scott for a jumper. Brantley leads all scores with 17.
HALFTIME: Free State leads Washburn Rural, 35-24: Senior guard Jenna Brantley leads all scores with 15 points in the first half. Senior forward Kelsey Harrison has nine points, while junior forward Sarah Craft has seven.
LaSharra Riley leads Washburn Rural with seven points.

5:52 SECOND QUARTER: Free State leads Washburn Rural, 20-13: Brantley converted another layup from dribble penetration. Brantley has a game-high eight points. Senior guard Lauren Kimball then found Craft on a fast break for an open layup. Craft has five.
END OF FIRST QUARTER: Free State leads Washburn Rural, 14-10: Brantley had a breakaway steal where she took it the length of the floor for the layup, plus the foul. Brantley converted the free throw. Craft capped a 9-0 Free State run with a three-pointer near the end of the first quarter.
2:20 FIRST QUARTER: Free State trails Washburn Rural, 10-8: Senior forward Kelsey Harrison scored the first points of the game on a layup. Harrison recognized her defender was fronting her and scored an easy layup off the lob pass.
Senior guard Jenna Brantley hit a three-pointer to give Free State a 5-0 lead. Washburn Rural stormed back on a 10-5 run to reclaim the lead. Harrison stopped the run with a three of her own.
Free State (16-6) will take on Washburn Rural (16-6) today at 4:45 p.m. from White Auditorium in Emporia.
