Student scholarships focus on volunteering
Kohl’s Kids Who Care Scholarship program will award more than $200,000 this year to students who volunteer in their community.
Youth volunteers are honored in two age categories: 6-12 and 13-18. Two nominees from each of Kohl’s 817 stores will win $50 Kohl’s gift cards. Store winners are then eligible for one of 170 regional scholarships, and regional winners compete for 10 national scholarships. In addition to scholarship dollars, national winners will receive a $1,000 donation to the charity of their choice. National winners will be announced in July.
Nominations are due by March 15, and applications can be filled out online at www.kohlscorporation.com.
Kohl’s Kids Who Care Scholarship program is in its seventh year. With a focus on volunteerism rather than academic performance, these scholarships are given to youths making a difference in their communities through contributions of time and talent.
Past winners have been recognized for a variety of volunteer activities, including unique fundraising efforts, planting urban gardens, riding bicycles for charity, hurricane relief and more.
