Home invasion reported in Osage County

Crime report bears similarities to incident reported this weekend in Lawrence

Osage County Sheriff’s officials reported an incident near Osage City on Monday morning that bore similarities to a home invasion in Lawrence during the weekend.

A white male armed with a handgun entered a residence in the 7500 block of West U.S. Highway 56 about 6:10 a.m. Monday.

The man, who reportedly stood about 5 feet 5 inches tall and had a heavy frame, was dressed in black and had a black stocking mask pulled over his head.

The man demanded money but left without taking any cash, and no injuries were reported from the incident.

Osage County Sheriff’s authorities report that a dark-colored pickup truck with a loud exhaust system was seen in the area.

Kim Murphree, spokeswoman for Lawrence police, said city police were aware of the incident in Osage County, but added that it was too early to say whether authorities suspect that the crimes are related.

The incident in Osage County, which occurred about one mile northwest of Osage City, is about 55 miles away from where Saturday’s home invasion happened in Lawrence.

Lawrence police released few further details about the crime on Monday.

According to a Lawrence police report, a man armed with a handgun encountered one of the four female occupants of an apartment in the 1000 block of Missouri Street.

The man took the woman and went to awaken the other three, demanding their wallets and purses.

The women were able to separate themselves from the man with a locked door and called police. The man then fled.

It was unclear whether the man took any items of value from the apartment.

Lawrence police would not disclose further information about the incident.
