Two-alarm fire sends one person to hospital
Lawrence firefighters took about 15 minutes to extinguish a two-alarm fire at a residence in the 1600 block of West 28th Street.
One person was taken by ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital about 7:30 p.m. Friday.
The person’s name was not released Friday night, and the condition of the patient was not immediately available.
Fire crews arrived at the house and found smoke coming from a second-floor bedroom window at the residence.
The fire was confined mainly to the room, but smoke damage was found throughout the house.
Doug Green, battalion chief for Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical, said a preliminary estimate of damage was about $65,000.
The Douglas County chapter of the American Red Cross was providing assistance to the five residents of the home.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation Friday night.
