Primary election results now official

The results of Tuesday’s primary election became official Friday, with no changes in the outcomes.

Douglas County commissioners canvassed the vote with County Clerk Jamie Shew.

Commissioners did decide to allow the counting of 88 provisional, or challenged, ballots. Seventeen provisional ballots were not counted for reasons that included not being registered in Douglas County, voting after polls closed and no signature.

More than 9,000 ballots were cast, including advance vote ballots, for a 15 percent election turnout.

The ballots were canvassed by Commissioners Bob Johnson and Jere McElhaney. They appointed Register of Deeds Kay Pesnell to fill in for Commissioner Charles Jones.
