A woman riding a bicycle across Iowa Street was taken to the hospital and was issued a traffic ticket Friday afternoon after she was struck by a vehicle.

An 18-year-old Lawrence woman at 2:30 p.m. was driving south in the 2400 block of Iowa Street when her vehicle ran into a 61-year-old woman, who was riding her bicycle east across the street.

Lawrence police spokeswoman Kim Murphree said the bicyclist was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Officers also cited the bicyclist for failure to yield the right of way to the vehicle.

Police did not release names of those identified by Friday evening.
