Angus breeders receive national recognition

Tom and Kim Swearngin, rural Lawrence, have been recognized nationally by the American Angus Association for having two registered Angus cows included in the association’s 2007 Pathfinder Report.

Of the more than 34,000 association members, 2,324 are represented in this year’s report, said John Crouch, executive vice president of the St. Joseph, Mo.-based association.

The program identifies superior Angus cows based on recorded performance traits – including early and regular calving and heavy weaning weights – that are economically important to efficient beef production, said Bill Bowman, the association’s director of performance programs.

More than 1.5 million eligible dams and more than 5 million weaning records were examined to determine Pathfinder status. The list includes 9,726 individual cows and 256 Pathfinder sires.
