Two hospitalized after K-10 crash

Two females were injured in a one-vehicle accident before rush hour Thursday on Kansas Highway 10.

Shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday, police and medical crews were dispatched to westbound K-10 near O’Connell Road, where one car had crashed into a nearby utility pole.

A helicopter took the driver of the automobile to Kansas University Hospital in Kansas City, Kan.

The car’s passenger was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital by ambulance.

Howard Johnson, a Lawrence resident, was driving west on K-10 when the car passed him in the left lane.

Shortly after that, Johnson said the car lost control and spun into the wooden utility pole, causing part of it to fall over.

Rob Kort, battalion chief for Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical, said police were still investigating the cause of the accident.

Neither passenger was ejected from the car.

The identities and conditions of the accident victims were not immediately available.
