Lightning causes slight damage to house
Eudora City Fire Department firefighters worked through heavy rains, lightning and hail Wednesday night to determine damage caused by a lightning strike at the Eudora home of Nathan Fortner.
The incident occurred about 9:50 p.m. at 335 W. 26th St. during one of a series of storms that swept through the area.
Eudora City Fire Chief Randy Ates said fire officials found no signs of flame but noticed a burning smell.
Residents told firefighters that lightning struck the southwest corner of the structure, Ates said. The residents saw sparks fly off the exterior of the home after the lightning strike, which caused the home’s electrical breakers to trip.
Ates estimated the damage at less than $1,000.
