One-car accident sends three to hospital

Shortly after 11 p.m. Wednesday, a one-car accident sent three teenagers to the hospital.

A Mercury Cougar carrying the three teens lost control, struck a light pole in the 800 block of West 23rd Street and came to rest in the entrance of Laird Noller car dealership. According to authorities, the pole did not break in the accident.

Police believe both operator error and road conditions are to blame for the accident. All three passengers – 18- and 19-year-old males from Lawrence and a 16-year-old female from Eudora – were taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

The young man who was driving the car was admitted to LMH, while the front-seat passenger – also a male – was treated and released. The 16-year-old female was transferred to a Kansas City area hospital for possible neck injuries.
