Sheridan’s Custard to host Safety Day

Sheridan’s Frozen Custard is hosting officials from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Lawrence police and fire departments for a Safety Day from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. today at the business, 23rd and Iowa streets.

Law enforcement and emergency officials will distribute free gun locks and demonstrate martial arts and self-defense, as well as bicycle safety.

Old cell phones can be donated in exchange for a small cup of custard. The phones, which do not need to be in working condition, will go to the elderly and crime victims to make 911 calls.

A company will also be on hand to shred personal documents at no charge.
