Commissioner has bad reaction to tick bite

Commissioner Jere McElhaney, who suffered a serious reaction to a tick bite earlier this week, plans to be at Monday’s County Commission meetings.

McElhaney was ill Wednesday and unable to go to that night’s meeting. The meeting was canceled because Commissioner Charles Jones was out of town, although he was prepared to participate by phone.

McElhaney, who owns his own fencing company and raises cattle, said he has suffered bad reactions to tick bites before and contracted Lyme disease about 10 years ago. Lyme disease causes a serious, long-term illness resulting from tick bites.
