Van Go fundraiser surpasses goal
The fourth annual Van Go Mobile Arts “What Floats Your Boat?” fundraiser June 16 at the Clinton Lake Marina raised $60,000 – $15,000 more than the group’s initial goal.
The arts-based social service agency exceeded last year’s earnings by 30 percent.
About 600 attended the event, which included a barbecue dinner, a live auction and a dance with Lawrence band $ellOut.
Auction items included outdoor furniture created by Van Go youth such as birdhouses, market umbrellas and a mosaic bench. Local businesses also donated items.
Van Go Mobile Arts, 715 N.J., employs youth ages 14 to 21. Its nationally recognized program, JAMS (Jobs in the Arts Make Sense), allows at-risk teens to earn wages while creating public works of art.
