State bar association gives service awards
Glee S. Smith Jr., of counsel for Barber Emerson LC, Lawrence, received a 60-year membership award from Kansas Bar Association during the organization’s recent annual meeting in Wichita.

Smith received his law degree at Kansas University in 1947 and started to practice law in Larned, in partnership with Judge Maurice A. Wildgen. Smith remains “of counsel” with the firm, which also includes Donald L. Burnett and Jerry G. Larson.
Smith moved to Lawrence in 1991 and spent 10 years in the House of Delegates for the American Bar Association. He also served as a Kansas state senator and as a member of the Kansas Board of Regents.
Also during the annual meeting, the bar association honored Lawrence attorneys Robert C. Casad Sr. and John A. Emerson for 50 years of legal service.
The association also recently announced winners of awards recognizing contributions to the legal profession. Among them were Elizabeth Seale Cateforis, a law professor at KU, and Roger L. McCollister, of Midland Professional Associates in Lawrence, who each received an Outstanding Service Award.
