Lifeguards to compete for awards at games

The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department’s Aquatic Division is hosting the Lifeguard Games from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. today at the Lawrence Outdoor Aquatic Center, 727 Ky.

The event will include a variety of team and individual competitions that range from CPR to water rescue. Two teams from the Johnson County Parks and Recreation Department, one team from the Derby Parks and Recreation Department and two teams from Lawrence will compete. Awards will be given to those who are the fastest and most accurate.

This is the first year for the event.

“A lot of it is to help keep our staff motivated, and being able to show off their skills,” said Lori Madaus, Lawrence aquatics supervisor.

The free event is open to the public.
