Baldwin City woman dies after accident

A 42-year-old Baldwin City woman died Saturday after a motorcycle accident at the intersection of Kansas Highways 68 and 33 about 10 miles east of Ottawa.

The woman, Anita L. McHenry, was southbound on K-33 and had stopped at a stop sign at the intersection with K-68. The motorcycle apparently stopped running, and when she attempted to start it, the motorcycle suddenly went forward, crossing K-68 and went through the road ditch on the southwest corner of the intersection, striking a fence and coming to rest in a field. McHenry was thrown from the motorcycle.

McHenry was treated at the scene by emergency personnel and transported to Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa, where she later died from her injuries.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Kansas Highway Patrol and emergency personnel from the Franklin County Ambulance Service and Cutler Township Fire Department responded to a report of the accident at 1:43 p.m.

The accident is being investigated by the Kansas Highway Patrol with assistance from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
